Celebrating April 1st!? No, not April Fools!

Celebrating April 1st!? No, not April Fools!

Megan Johnston

It's April 1st!

We are not celebrating April Fool's Day like many others, but we are celebrating PRIDE preparation season!

^ Really hard pass on April Fool's Day for real though.

Pride preparation season will always be inherently special over here.

Their Collective's origins can easily be traced back to a twinkle in Meg's eye after participating in Chelsea's Safe Spaces Presentation.

***Due to licensing, we have renamed the workshop "Ally Learning Workshop"

Yes, I am really glad I checked first.

Last year Meg and a group of advocates at Abortion is Healthcare were planning to participate in the Queen City Pride Parade. Registration for parade participants suggested groups take a Safe Spaces training program. The U of R PRIDE Center was no longer offering it and Queen City Pride had no recommendations of where to take it.

Meg knew Chelsea had been doing similar work as the President of Prince Albert Pride, including presenting to Sask Polytechnic Mental Health and Addictions Program..... and of course they agree to do a presentation for us, virtually!

First, one of the other participants asked if they could share the presentation with co-workers at a daycare

Then Meg thought it would be really beneficial for teaching staff where she was working as a School Counsellor.

In July of last year, Chelsea stepped down from Prince Albert Pride Board and Meg immediately asked them if they wanted to start a business together.

Affirming mental health therapy and Ally Learning Workshops.

The idea was born.

Affirming mental health services, and educational workshops.

The idea started to shift!

Affirming mental health services, educational workshops, and a virtual market.

The idea started to grow?

Then we invited everyone to tell us what they thought of the workshop at our LAUNCH PARTY in October

The workshop has been through one more round of editing and been delivered several times since then. At Their Collective we have been very grateful to have so much support and knowledge to make and keep it the best it could be.

Their Collective connected fairly early with Oliver Rempel at Origin Graphic Design. They did a great job creating our Branding Package last fall. Helping us create a space that's unique, feels soft and homey, and gives us room to grow as the years go by! You can also find a collection of his art work under "Dark Mania" on our Virtual Artisan Market.
