Queer Muslims & Mental Health in Canada
Last fall, Their Collective member Maraam Haque, Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) in Scarborough Ontario received a grant from Voices Canada.
Voices Canada is a non-profit organization whose mission is "Elevate the Margins. Educate Elevate. Empower" to run s virtual therapy group specifically for Queer Muslim's living in Ontario. The group was an invitation to re-engage with Islam in a safe, affirming, and trauma-informed environment.
This led to another Ontario organization reaching out to Maraam as they were interested in creating training and education for mental health professionals and services to support people at the intersection of Muslim and Queerness.
Now, Maraam and a colleague are conducting a survey to inform the use, accessibility, and challenges that queer Muslim individuals experience when accessing therapeutic services.
This information will help create a comprehensive training designed to assist clinicians in making therapy more accessible, sustainable and beneficial for people at the intersection of queer Muslim experiences.
Your participation is completely optional and anonymous. We have been asked to use network style surveying to ensure we reach the right population. If you know anyone else who may be interested and part of the applicable population feel free to share the survey.
