When Regulation Isn’t Calm: Somatic Practices for Neurodivergent Helpers in Burnout
Why Take This Webinar?
Burnout is widely discussed in helping professions, but neurodivergent burnout is often misunderstood. Many conventional approaches to regulation rely on stillness, internal awareness, or compliance. These are strategies that don’t always work and can sometimes make things worse.
This webinar offers a different lens. Participants will explore how burnout uniquely presents in neurodivergent nervous systems and why common interventions may fall short. The focus is on practical, accessible somatic techniques that support regulation without requiring suppression, masking, or “pushing through.”
Who Should Attend?
This session is designed for community-based frontline workers who identify as neurodivergent, suspect they may be, or who support neurodivergent clients. It is also relevant for those in high-demand, relational roles experiencing ongoing stress, fatigue, or reduced capacity.
What to Expect
This is a 1-hour, experiential and educational session combining teaching and guided practices. Participants can expect:
- A neurodivergent-informed understanding of burnout and nervous system responses
- Exploration of hyperarousal and shutdown (dissociation), and how to support each
- Low-demand, choice-based somatic exercises adapted for neurodivergent regulation
- Reframing emotional responses (such as anger or grief) as valid reactions to real-world stress
- Opportunities to reflect on what feels usable and sustainable in their own practice
All exercises are invitational, with an emphasis on autonomy and flexibility.
About the Facilitator
Niko Alexander is an MPCC-Provisional specializing in neurodivergence and identity-affirming care. Their work focuses on supporting individuals who are navigating chronic stress, masking, and nervous system overwhelm. Niko brings a grounded, trauma-informed approach that integrates somatic practices with a deep understanding of neurodivergent lived experience.
Follow-Up & Takeaways
Participants will leave with practical tools and frameworks that can be integrated into both personal and professional contexts. Handout summary to be provided for post-presentation reminders.
This webinar offers not just strategies, but a shift in perspective: from managing burnout through effort to supporting the nervous system through understanding and choice.
