Facilitated by Maraam Haque, Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying).
Making Meaning in Islam is a group therapy program for adults in Ontario healing from religious trauma, with a focus on LGBTQIAP+ and BIPOC of the Muslim faith.
The group will focus on providing an affirming and therapeutic space for individuals impacted by difficult relationships with religion, organized religion, or religious systems. Our goal for the group is to foster community and celebration in connection with others of similar identity.
Groups are scheduled according to the lunar calendar on significant dates to Muslim’s. We will gather before Ramadan, Hajj, Day of Ashura, and Mawlid, and the Prophet Mohammad’s (PBUH) Birthday. We will hold space to set intention and curiosity for each celebration to connect with ourselves, each other, and Islam through a relationship built on values, mercy, love, and community.

- 1.5 hours of group therapy utilizing Jane telehealth software
-
A bundle for each meeting that includes journal prompts to write, note, and reflect about themes and journey in fostering a relationship with religion, and goods related to each event from small-business from artists and artisans capturing relevant experiences in their identity or work.
